AGA Nanotech Awarded £1 Million UK-China Collaboration to Tackle Antimicrobial Resistance

AGA Nanotech has been awarded £1 million in funding as part of a UK-China collaboration to develop new treatments aimed at controlling the spread of antibiotic-resistant pathogens in poultry.

AGA Nanotech has been awarded £1 million in funding as part of a UK-China collaboration to develop new treatments aimed at controlling the spread of antibiotic-resistant pathogens in poultry. The project, jointly funded by the UK Department of Health and Social Care’s AMR fund, managed through Innovate UK, and China’s Ministry of Science and Technology, will enable AGA Nanotech to identify nanoparticles with optimal biocide release rates and test their effectiveness in treating poultry.

This pioneering research brings together a diverse consortium of UK and Chinese partners, including GAMA Healthcare, Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC), the Centre for Innovation Excellence in Livestock (CIEL), and the Shanghai Veterinary Research Institute (SHVRI). The project aims to customise and trial AGA Nanotech’s innovative patented technology, to support the poultry industry in rearing antibiotic free chickens.

Quote: “We are thrilled to be part of this collaboration. Poultry is a globally important protein source, and this project has the potential to significantly reduce the spread of antibiotic-resistant pathogens at a cost that will benefit both developed and developing nations,” said Adrian Fellows, R&D Director at AGA Nanotech
